A few quick questions, then a fixed monthly fee in writing and the free VAT and structure check. About two minutes, no tie in.
The costly part is often what nobody checks once the software is running. We review the old books when you join, then explain what needs fixing before the next return or bill.
Concrete Accounts handles the books for trade and service limited companies across Liverpool, Merseyside and the UK. A fixed monthly fee includes cloud software, with VAT, CIS and payroll handled where agreed. Every new client receives a free review of the existing books.

What stays sorted before January arrives
Know what tax to put aside
VAT and corporation tax are tracked before the money gets spent elsewhere.
File VAT from current books
Receipts, invoices and bank payments are dealt with before the return is due.
Make decisions using this month
See whether the company can afford a purchase, hire or change in director pay.
Where neglected books start costing you
The problem usually appears when a payment or deadline cannot wait.
- VAT
“I priced the job before anyone told me the VAT return would take that much from the bank.”
Money collected for VAT was spent on materials and wages. The return then competed with the next job.
- Hire
“I took someone on, then found the payroll and pension work had been left until the deadline.”
The hire created filings and payments that the bank balance had never allowed for.
- Tax bill
“I paid myself from the bank balance and learned the corporation tax total after year end.”
The company had earned the profit, but nobody had separated the tax while cash was available.
- Day 90
What changes once the advice is in the room
Receipts and invoices are dealt with every month. You are told what to put aside before you spend it. Purchases, pay and hires can be judged before the bank balance makes the decision.
Quick check · no email
If your accountant cannot explain what is missing, what tax is building up and answer you this week, you have the wrong accountant.
Answer these three questions about the accountant looking after your company now.
Question 1 of 3
Could they tell you this week whether every bank payment has a receipt, invoice or explanation?
Could they tell you this week what to set aside for VAT and corporation tax?
Could they answer a question about a purchase before you pay for it?
All three gaps leave you making decisions from the bank balance. The set-up review shows what has been missed and what needs attention first.
Some of the work is covered, but one gap can still become an expensive deadline. A review of one client’s VAT returns found an error that had remained for years.
Three yeses mean your accountant is doing the job you need. The guides can help you check individual VAT, CIS and payroll decisions.
What changes when the books are kept each month
A year-end service may file correctly while leaving daily decisions with you.

What clients say
Can’t recommend these guys enough, saved the day when our previous accountant hadn’t been filling properly and we were facing fines. Worth their weight in gold!Regent BarbersGoogle review · 10 months ago
Exceptional service. Communication is clear, timely, and consistently accessible. After years of dealing with an accountant who was difficult to reach and overly formal, working with someone this reliable and solution focused has been a significant improvement. Strongly recommend.James HenryGoogle review · 10 months ago
I’ve been blown away by the service from Barnaby! My accounts went from being a constant mental burden to something I feel completely under control — all thanks to him. Now I can shift my mental energy to running my business rather than worrying about unexpected tax bills. Barnaby not only stays on top of everything, but also sends me financial reports so I have clarity and always know exactly what’s going on, which has made running my business enjoyable again!Oliver NoakesGoogle review · 10 months ago
How the first 90 days get the books current
The work starts with the gaps that could affect the next payment or filing.
Know what needs fixing first
We check the bank, invoices, receipts and old returns, then agree which gaps need attention first.
Receipts stop piling up
Cloud software is included in the fixed monthly fee. Receipts, invoices and bank payments start being dealt with as they happen.
Returns use current books
VAT, CIS and payroll use checked transactions instead of a pile rebuilt near the deadline.
Know what to put aside
Your report shows how the company traded and what tax is coming. Barnaby explains what should stay in the bank.
Who gets the most from keeping books current
The service is built for ongoing limited company work, rather than a one-off filing.
A side project without established turnover needs a simpler arrangement.
Anyone asking for transactions to be changed without evidence will be refused.
A business choosing solely on the lowest price will be better served elsewhere.
If the company is growing and the books are behind, the set-up review shows whether ongoing support fits.
What directors ask before handing over the books
Monthly bookkeeping: what does the fixed monthly fee include?
It covers the regular work needed to keep the books current, including bank matching, receipts, sales invoices and the information behind VAT, CIS and payroll. Cloud software is included. The agreed scope is written down before work starts, so extra work does not arrive as an unexplained invoice.
Can you take over if we already have an accountant?
Yes. We first look at what is going wrong and whether the service fits your company. If you decide to move, Concrete Accounts contacts the previous accountant directly and handles the handover. The books are then checked for gaps before the regular work begins.
Do we have to move to different bookkeeping software?
No. The starting point is the software and bank feeds you already use. If a change is needed, we explain why before moving anything. Cloud accounting software is included in the fixed monthly fee, making receipts and invoices easier to send from your phone.
What happens with our current accountant when we switch?
We contact your current accountant directly and request the information needed for the handover. You do not have to manage the awkward exchange yourself. Once the books arrive, we review them for gaps and errors, then agree what must be corrected before the next return or year end.
Monthly bookkeeping: how often should I send receipts and invoices?
Send them as they arise rather than storing them for year end. Phone uploads and bank feeds make that easier, while regular checks show what is still missing. Each month is dealt with while the supplier, job and payment are still easy to identify.
Can bookkeeping cover VAT, CIS and payroll as well?
Yes, when those services are included in your agreed scope. Keeping the books current gives each return and payroll run the information it needs. Concrete Accounts can handle VAT, CIS, payroll, year-end accounts, corporation tax and the director’s self assessment as one ongoing service.
