Can’t recommend these guys enough, saved the day when our previous accountant hadn’t been filling properly and we were facing fines. Worth their weight in gold!Regent BarbersGoogle review · 10 months ago
Exceptional service. Communication is clear, timely, and consistently accessible. After years of dealing with an accountant who was difficult to reach and overly formal, working with someone this reliable and solution focused has been a significant improvement. Strongly recommend.James HenryGoogle review · 10 months ago
I’ve been blown away by the service from Barnaby! My accounts went from being a constant mental burden to something I feel completely under control — all thanks to him. Now I can shift my mental energy to running my business rather than worrying about unexpected tax bills. Barnaby not only stays on top of everything, but also sends me financial reports so I have clarity and always know exactly what’s going on, which has made running my business enjoyable again!Oliver NoakesGoogle review · 10 months ago
Concrete Accounts have been an absolute game-changer for my business. They don’t just balance the books. they go above and beyond. From the very beginning, they helped me set up, register, and run my limited company legally and efficiently. Their knowledge and support have given me complete confidence that everything is being done properly. No question is ever too big or too small, and they are always available to provide advice, guidance, and solutions for anything financial. It’s rare to find a service that truly cares about your business the way they do. If you’re considering joining Concrete Accounts, do it. You will not regret signing up! Outstanding service throughout.Paul SutherberryGoogle review · 10 months ago

The dates that catch owners out
Each deadline is handled as part of your fixed monthly work. You know what is due, when it is due and what needs putting aside before the date arrives.
VAT return and payment
The reverse charge sorted on contractor invoices. The VAT money kept separate from the day it is collected.
CIS return
Deductions from your subbies reported and paid over. Miss it and the fine is yours, not theirs.
PAYE and pension
Payroll run, the pension filed, HMRC paid from a pot rather than the current account.
Corporation tax
Planned down during the year and put aside monthly, so the bill lands without a fight.
Director’s self assessment
Your personal bill worked out in the autumn, not discovered in January.
What gets found when somebody looks properly
The review of your existing books is free when you join.
Found during one short review
One new client’s VAT returns had been wrong for years under the previous accountant. A fifteen minute review found the overpayment, which was then claimed back. It is one client’s result, not a promised saving.
Crossing the line without being told
VAT registration is based on your rolling twelve-month turnover. We watch the total, plan the registration and help you price VAT into future quotes before HMRC has to point it out.
CIS has arrived with its own deadline
Taking on a subcontractor brings verification, deductions and a monthly return. We set it up, run the return and tell you what must be paid over.
The company needs setting up properly
Moving across changes the bank account, payroll, tax and how you pay yourself. We handle the switch and explain each decision in ordinary English.
I started this to answer the phone
I started Concrete Accounts after meeting business owners with the same problems: tax made no sense, nobody told them what was coming, and their accountant appeared once a year. I wanted to give them a plain answer while there was still time to act.
If your current accountant costs less, ask what you get between one year end and the next. Good advice costs more than a filing service, but it can prevent missed deadlines, wasted time and avoidable letters from HMRC. The fee and the work covered are agreed before you move.
You deal with me on WhatsApp, phone or email. Bring me the question as you would say it, and I will answer it the same way.
The jobs that stop hanging over you
Bookkeeping, VAT, CIS, payroll, year end and tax are handled in one place. Fixed monthly fees start from £138, with cloud software included and no surprise invoices.
The books no longer wait for January
We keep the transactions up to date each month and deal with the loose receipts and unanswered items while they are still fresh.
BookkeepingVAT stops catching up with your quotes
We track the threshold, handle registration and prepare the returns. For contractors, we also deal with the domestic reverse charge.
VATYour first subbie does not create a fine
We verify subcontractors, work out deductions and submit the monthly return. You are told what must be paid to HMRC.
CIS returnsPayday and pension letters stop piling up
We run payroll, handle the regular filings and deal with auto-enrolment duties for your team.
PayrollThe year end stops becoming a rescue job
We prepare the annual accounts and corporation tax return, then tell you what is due and when.
Year endPaying yourself stops being a guess
We handle the director’s self assessment and help you choose a sensible salary and dividend mix for your circumstances.
Director taxYou find out before the bill lands
Every quarter, we explain what came in, what went out, what tax is coming and what should be put aside.
Quarterly reportsGoing limited stops being mate-down-the-pub advice
We compare the options and handle the company, registrations, payroll and practical move across when the switch makes sense.
Going limitedBuilt for owner-run businesses
We look after limited companies built by owners who are good at the work and tired of running the money side from the bank balance. That includes trades and service businesses across Liverpool and beyond.

Liverpool, the Wirral and Cheshire, with UK-wide help by phone
We work with owners across Liverpool, Merseyside, the Wirral and Cheshire. The practice is remote, so businesses elsewhere in the UK get the same service through cloud software. You can reach Barnaby on WhatsApp, phone or email.
Ask a questionChanging accountants without the awkward handover
The switch starts with the problem you need fixed. We then agree the work and take the handover off your plate.
Start with a free company check
Barnaby checks your VAT position, company structure, pay and CIS where it applies. If the service is not a fit, he says so on the call.
Get the monthly fee in writing
You get one fixed monthly fee for a defined scope, with the cloud software included. The cost is agreed before any work starts.
We deal with your old accountant
We contact the previous accountant and complete the free onboarding in the first week. Once you are in, we review the existing books for errors and tax issues that need attention.
There are no catch-up fees simply for moving across, although rules apply where earlier work is incomplete. Any work needed is explained before it begins.

Here are the plain answers to the issues that usually appear when a business starts growing.
Can an Accountant in Liverpool tell me when to register for VAT?
You must register when taxable turnover goes over the current threshold on a rolling twelve-month basis, or when you expect to exceed it within the required period. It is not based only on your accounting year. We check your dates and sales to work out when the rule applies to you.
Can an Accountant in Liverpool help me choose sole trader or limited company?
The answer depends on profit, how you take money out, your plans and the extra duties a company brings. A limited company is not automatically the right answer. We compare both routes using your circumstances and explain what moving across would involve.
What does CIS require when I take on my first subcontractor?
You normally need to register as a contractor, verify the subcontractor, make the correct deduction and submit monthly returns. The deduction applies to the relevant part of the payment, so labour and materials must be treated properly. We set up the process using your actual subcontractors and invoices.
When does the domestic reverse charge apply to my invoices?
It can apply to certain construction services supplied between VAT-registered businesses where the customer reports under CIS. The customer accounts for the VAT instead of paying it to you. We check the job, customer and invoice before telling you how it should be treated.
Which van, tools, fuel and workwear costs can go through the company?
A cost generally needs to be for the business, but the treatment changes when there is personal use. Ordinary clothing is treated differently from protective workwear, and vehicle costs depend on who owns the vehicle and how it is used. We check each cost against your setup.
How much should I put aside for VAT, corporation tax and my own tax?
There is no safe percentage that works for every company. The amount depends on sales, costs, VAT treatment, profit and how you pay yourself. We calculate it from your company activity and update the amount as the year changes.
