About Concrete Accounts, where owners get a plain answer.
About Concrete Accounts: Barnaby Byrom started the firm in 2023 after training at a Top 10 accounting firm. It works with owner-managed trade and service limited companies across Liverpool, the Wirral, Cheshire, and the UK.
Why Barnaby started the firm
The same complaints kept coming up.
Before starting Concrete Accounts, Barnaby trained at a Top 10 accounting firm. The owners he met were good at running the actual business, yet tax was explained in a language they never used. Their accountant appeared near year end, filed the forms, and disappeared again. Questions about VAT, CIS, payroll, or paying themselves were left until the decision had already been made.
He set up the firm around a simple rule: advice should arrive while there is still time to use it. That means bookkeeping done during the year, tax planned before the bill lands, and a plain answer when a new employee, subcontractor, van, or supplier changes the picture. The fee is agreed monthly, the software is included, and the scope is written down before the work begins.
Today, Concrete Accounts works remotely with owner-managed limited companies across Liverpool, the Wirral, Cheshire, and the rest of the UK. The client base includes construction trades, engineering firms, cleaning companies, care businesses, salons, grounds teams, training providers, agencies, and consultants. The work stays practical: handle the monthly jobs properly, raise decisions early, and give the owner an answer they can use.
How the work gets done
These are the rules Barnaby uses when the month gets busy. You can judge the firm by whether it follows them.
Say what the tax means in plain English
VAT registration, the reverse charge, CIS deductions, and director pay are explained in the words you use at work. If a sentence needs translating before you can act on it, Barnaby rewrites the sentence.
Plan the bill before the deadline lands
Bookkeeping and quarterly reporting happen during the year, so upcoming tax is raised before the payment date. You can decide what to put aside before the company account gets used for another van, hire, or supplier bill.
Keep the fee fixed and written down
The monthly scope says what is covered, and the cloud software is included. If the work changes, Barnaby explains the change before doing it. An invoice should never be the first place you learn that something sat outside the agreement.
Answer the question while it still matters
Clients can use WhatsApp, phone, or email. When payroll is due or a subcontractor starts, you should be able to ask what to do before the decision becomes tomorrow’s clean-up job.
Who you will work with
Barnaby leads the work and explains the answer in ordinary language.
