Our Cookies Policy

Our Cookies Policy sets out every cookie this website sets, what each one is for, how long it stays on your device and how you switch the non-essential ones off. Only the cookies the site cannot run without are set automatically. Read it alongside our Privacy Policy, which covers the rest of the information we hold.

What this page covers

Concrete Accounts Ltd runs this website. This page explains the cookies and similar tracking technologies used here, what each one does, how long it stays on your device and how you decide which ones run. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which covers how we handle your information more widely. We follow the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 and the UK GDPR, and the wording is checked by a suitably qualified professional before each update. If anything here is unclear, email us and we will explain it plainly.

What a cookie actually is

A cookie is a small text file that a website puts on your phone, tablet or computer when you visit. It stores information such as whether you are signed in, what you picked on the cookie banner, or which pages you looked at. Some cookies last only until you close the browser. Others sit on the device for months. First-party cookies are set by this website. Third-party cookies are set by other services a site relies on, such as analytics tools or embedded content, and those companies set their own rules for them.

UK law splits cookies into the ones a website cannot work without and everything else. Everything else only runs if you say yes first.

Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, strictly necessary cookies can be set as soon as you arrive. Every other cookie, analytics included, needs your clear permission before it runs. Permission means an active choice on the banner, never a pre-ticked box and never carrying on browsing. You can change your mind at any point, and the site works either way.

Strictly necessary cookies: no consent needed

These keep the site running: holding a session together, keeping forms and sign-ins secure, managing traffic and remembering which cookie choices you saved. Without them, pages break. They are listed here for transparency, but they do not need your permission.

Everything else: consent first

Functional, analytics and marketing cookies run only after you tick that category on the banner and save your choice. Nothing in those groups is set beforehand. Decline them and the pages, the forms and the quiz still work exactly the same.

Withdrawing consent

Use the manage cookies link in the footer to reopen the banner, change any category and save again. Withdrawal applies straight away to anything that would be set after that point, and clearing cookies in your browser removes what is already stored.

The cookies we use here

Four groups, and only the first runs without your say so.

CategoryPurposeNote
Strictly necessary cookiesSession handling, security checks on forms and sign-ins, basic load management and the record of the cookie choices you saved. These run on every visit because the site cannot serve pages or protect submissions without them. They hold no advertising data and are not shared with advertisers. No consent required. These are essential for the site to work.
Functional cookiesThese remember settings you have chosen, such as a signed-in session in the WordPress dashboard or a layout preference, so you do not set them again next time. Useful, and the site still serves every page properly without them.Set only with your consent. Withdraw at any time via manage cookies.
Analytics cookiesThese count visitors, show which pages get read, how people arrive and where they stop reading, so we know which guides are worth writing. The reporting is aggregated. No analytics cookie is set unless you choose that category on the banner and save it.Set only with your consent. They help us improve the site and are not needed for it to work.
Marketing cookiesThese would follow a visit across other websites, show adverts based on the pages you read here and measure which advert led to an enquiry. We do not currently set marketing cookies on this website. If that changes, this page is updated first and the banner asks before anything is set.None set at present. Any future marketing cookies need your explicit consent and can be disabled at any time.

You can change your choice at any time: Cookie settings

Cookies set by others

Some cookies on a website come from services the site relies on rather than from us: hosting and security, fonts, embedded maps or video, and any analytics we switch on. Those companies decide what their cookies do and publish their own privacy notices, which we link from this page when a service is in use. Declining a category on our banner stops those cookies here. It does not change what the same company does on other websites, so you would manage that in your browser or in your account with them.

How to manage your cookies

Two ways, and both stay open to you.

You can control cookies on this site through our consent banner, and you can control cookies on every site you visit through your browser settings. The second is wider and applies across the whole web, including here.

Via this website

The banner appears on your first visit. Pick the categories you are happy with and save. After that, the manage cookies link in the footer reopens the same panel, shows what is currently switched on and lets you turn analytics or marketing off again. Your choice is stored and applied on later visits.

Via your browser

Browser settings block or delete cookies across all websites. In Chrome, go to Settings, then Privacy and security, then Third-party cookies. In Firefox, Settings, then Privacy and Security. In Safari, Settings or Preferences, then Privacy. In Edge, Settings, then Cookies and site permissions. Each one also has a delete option.

What blocking changes

Block strictly necessary cookies and parts of the site stop working properly: forms may not submit and the banner asks the same question on every page. Block analytics or marketing and nothing changes for you. Every page loads the same.

Technologies similar to cookies

Cookies are not the only way a site stores or gathers information. Local storage and session storage sit in the browser and hold data the same way. Pixel tags inside pages or emails record that something was opened. Server logs keep IP addresses and request times for security and fault finding. Where any of these are used for anything beyond running and protecting the site, they are treated as non-essential and need your consent.

Children and this site

This website is built for business owners and the people who run limited companies. It is not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information through cookies from anyone under 18. If you think we have, email us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We update this page when the cookies on the site change, when a new tool is added or when the rules move. The last reviewed date at the top always shows the current version. A material change resets the banner so you are asked to make your choices again. Small wording fixes do not.

Questions about our cookies

Ask and you get a plain answer, not a legal essay.

Anything about the cookies on this site, what one of them does, or a request to see or remove what we hold, goes to the same inbox. Barnaby answers on WhatsApp, phone or email.

Complaints to the ICO

If you are not happy with how we have handled a cookie or data question, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK regulator for this. The complaints page is at https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/ and the helpline is 0303 123 1113. We would rather sort it with you first, so tell us what has gone wrong and give us the chance to put it right.
